Devil May Cry, but a touch more refined. A posh hack n slash that is the fine red wine of the genre – classy, full bodied, rich, easy to down quickly and awesome. Can’t wait to blag a free copy.

HULK – ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION
The ultimate ‘sandpit’ game. Run around and destroy everything. It’s fucking great.

KONG
Didn’t see it or play it. Those very much trusted in the realm of opinion have, and love it dearly. Some even cited it game of the show. Not the same idiots who liked Wanda and the Cock-arse-toss (which may have improved since the show, despite my constant slagging it off).

GHOST RECON 360
Done by a team formed by some ex-Starbreeze boys on behalf of Ubi Soft. This’ll probably be the first Rainbox Six game I ever play for more than five minutes.

24: THE GAME
Never played it but wanted to. It’s set between seaons 2 and 3. This one got mixed vibes. Some thought it did the cinematics well but the gameplay and aiming was a bit rough around the edges. Sadly no judgement was solid enough and I didn’t want to play it after the sweaty haired dude greased the headphones on the machine I was waiting by.

GAUNTLETT SEVEN SORROWS
F*cking craptacular. Stinking disappointment of the show. If John Romero’s reputation survives this AND Daikatana, AND the Nokia NGage SHAME, I’ll be impressed. I prefer Gauntlett Dark Legacy to this and that was a PSOne standard game on Xbox that was mindless low-budget fun.

This was an overly complicated, jerky, ugly bore of a game with the graphical sophistication of a blind work experience kid’s first pen-drawn anal regurgitations and control design aimed at people with Stephen Hawking’s claw hand.

A sham of a mockery of a sham. The puzzle on show was so dull, I stopped playing halfway through it. The money Midway spent trying to boost this franchise has all gone to waste. What a tragedy. Poach David Jaffe from SCEA and get him to do it instead.

FILM REVIEW -
THE ISLAND
Dir: Michael Bay
Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Ewan McGregor, Sean Bean, Steve Buscemi, Djimon Honsou

The Jist:
People living in a post apocalyptic outbreak eutopian society get excited once a week, where they get picked out in a lottery to stay on some paradise dubbed ‘the island’. Sean Bean plays the guy in charge and Johansson and MrGregor are two of the inhabitants.

The Good:
Landscape shots were pretty. Would’ve made a great tourist board video for wherever the outside scenes were shot.
Soundtrack was nice – very much like Hans Zimmer’s Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack.
Scarlet Johansson generally being very hot indeed.
Ewan McGregor and Scarlet Johansson’s characters were well played and likable.
The futuristic environments were pretty cool.
The scenes with two Ewan McGregors.
Steve Buscemi and every one of his scenes.
The clones finding out that they are clones.
The film finally ending.

The Bad:
Too many chase scenes and things smashing. It got a bit boring after a while.
The plot – dumb.
Sean Bean being cast as some evil guy. Because that *never* happens.
Djimon Honsou (black guy from Gladiator) and his ‘acting’.
Stupid plot.
Retarded security in the complex.
The underlying, very odd message.
The utterly vile and rampant product placement – easily the worst I’ve ever seen. There’s a scene where they have a beer at Ewan McGregor’s place. He puts down his beer on a table, lable facing the screen, with a wonderful light illuminating it from behind and a brief pause on the shot. Utterly fucking vile. And the Xbox bit is attrocious. I’ve never been offended by ads quite so much in all my life.
The plot really is very, very stupid.
Overall, a bit cheesy.

The Verdict:
It’s dumb. Don’t waste your money.

Basically, the message of the film seems to be ‘clones are people too’. People who are likable characters in the film and have done well for themselves, save up millions and buy themselves an insurance policy should their kidneys fail or other such, in the form of a personal clone.

Ewan McGregor – who is a clone – then decides he is more worthy of life than his ‘original’ and ends up causing him to be killed. Then they free all the other clones and that’s the end of the film. Sean Bean, the doctor pioneering the clone technology, is cast as a dark and evil man and not as a man trying to expand the limits of science in order to advance and help the human race push on. Okay, he defies nature, but that idea is never tackled. The morals and message just don’t make sense. Worse, the story is just plain dumb.

The film is visually nice to look at and some moments are entertaining, but after the millionth car crash/chase, I stopped caring.

Now I’m scared that he’s the guy alleged to helm the Transformers movie.

Avoid this film. It’s not sh*t, but it’s pretty damn close.
